Short answer: Use this hub to find planning tools for comparing price ranges, itemising a medical trip and converting foreign-currency quotes into approximate AUD. Interactive calculators are live on each tool page of the published site, alongside methodology and risk framing. Medicare doesn’t cover you overseas (Smartraveller (opens official site)). For a checklist you can use today, start with the trip budget planner.

Risks and limitations to understand first

  • Estimates only. Calculator outputs are planning figures, not bookable quotes and not guaranteed savings.
  • Not clinic quotes. Packages change with inclusions, surgeon fees, implants or devices, scans, nights in hospital and currency. Always get an itemised written quote.
  • Medicare overseas. Medicare doesn’t cover treatment overseas (Smartraveller (opens official site)). See Medicare overseas treatment.
  • Extras often dominate. Flights, recovery nights, insurance, time off work, companion costs, follow-up at home and revision can outweigh a lower procedure line. Use the trip budget planner.
  • Foreign exchange moves. Card fees and FX margins change the all-in AUD cost (ACCC (opens official site); Moneysmart (opens official site)). See paying overseas clinics.
  • Clinical suitability comes first. A lower overseas range does not mean you are a suitable candidate. Talk to a registered health practitioner in Australia before deciding. Risks of travelling for treatment are summarised by Smartraveller (opens official site).
  • Cosmetic selections must not surface loan CTAs. Planning tools that include cosmetic procedure categories will not push borrowing, payment-plan or loan calls to action. Ahpra advertising rules restrict how financial arrangements are promoted alongside cosmetic procedures; we keep planning tools separate from credit marketing.
  • Basic travel insurance rarely covers medical tourism. Read the PDS: travel insurance for surgery and medical tourism insurance.

Published tools

Each page below carries an interactive calculator on the published site, plus risks, inputs/outputs and methodology. Outputs are estimates only, not quotes.

Tool URL Status What it will help with
Savings calculator /tools/savings-calculator/ Interactive tool live / methodology published Line up Australian and overseas price ranges from dated sourced data - estimates only, never a guaranteed saving
Trip cost calculator /tools/trip-cost-calculator/ Interactive tool live / methodology published Itemise procedure, recovery nights, flights from Australian cities, hotel, insurance and an FX buffer
Currency converter /tools/currency-converter/ Interactive tool live / methodology published Convert a foreign-currency quote using a stated reference rate plus a user-visible card/FX fee buffer

Cross-check tool outputs with the guides linked from each page and the checklist below. Procedure figures on this site show Price on request, get quotes from clinics / pending sourced data until verified.

Checklist companion

The medical trip budget planner is the checklist companion to these calculators. Use it to list treatment, pre-trip tests, flights, accommodation, insurance, time off work, follow-up at home and a buffer for problems - before you treat any calculator total as complete.

Related finance reading: finance hub, health insurance gaps, paying overseas clinics (FX). Related cost indexes: costs hub (Price on request, get quotes from clinics on figures until verified).

On finance and trip-planning orientation pages we may mention our sister site surgeryloans.com.au in plain text with ownership disclosure. We do not place sister-site links next to cosmetic procedure content, and these tools will not surface loan CTAs for cosmetic selections. Disclosure: surgeryloans.com.au shares ownership with medicaltourism.com.au. See how we make money. Independent borrowing guidance: Moneysmart on personal loans (opens official site).

Methodology and data sources

Live numeric ranges on savings and trip-cost tools must come from dated, sourced inputs only:

  1. Internal dataset mt-price-ranges.csv (procedure, country, currency, low/high, inclusions notes, source URL, as-of date), and/or
  2. Published hospital or clinic tariffs we can cite with an access date.

We never invent numbers. Until a row is verified and dated:

  • On-page figures appear as Price on request, get quotes from clinics
  • Tool copy says pending sourced data
  • Destination cost pages stay in the same pending state until verification

As-of dates will sit next to every live range. Stale rows will be refreshed or withdrawn rather than left as undated marketing figures. Currency conversion uses a stated reference rate plus a user-visible card/FX buffer caveat - not a claim that the mid-market style figure is what your bank will charge.

We do not use headline percentage-saving claims (for example “save 70%”). Differences are shown as ranges with as-of dates once sourced data is live.

How these tools fit together

  1. Confirm clinical suitability with an Australian registered practitioner, and read Smartraveller on medical tourism (opens official site).
  2. Gather an itemised written quote (or note Price on request, get quotes from clinics on published ranges under costs).
  3. Convert foreign-currency lines with the currency converter or your bank’s rate plus a fee buffer.
  4. Compare AU vs overseas ranges with the savings calculator - estimates only.
  5. Build the full trip with the trip cost calculator and the trip budget planner.
  6. Check insurance, Medicare limits, flying and aftercare: medical tourism insurance, flying after surgery, aftercare in Australia, complications after surgery overseas.

Frequently asked questions

Are these calculators quotes I can book against?

No. Outputs will be planning estimates from dated ranges or your own pasted figures. Only a written, itemised clinic or hospital quote is a price for booking.

Are the interactive tools live?

Yes. Each tool page shows its interactive calculator on the published site. Outputs remain estimates, and figures show Price on request, get quotes from clinics where no sourced data exists.

Where do the price numbers come from?

Only from dated mt-price-ranges.csv rows or published hospital tariffs. Otherwise figures show Price on request, get quotes from clinics / pending sourced data. We never invent numbers.

Will cosmetic procedure selections show loan offers?

No. Cosmetic selections must not surface loan, BNPL or payment-plan CTAs on these tools.

Does Medicare cover any of the overseas lines?

No. Medicare doesn’t cover you overseas. See Medicare overseas treatment.

Should I start with a calculator or the trip budget planner?

Start with the trip budget planner checklist so you know every cost category. Use the calculators to sum or convert lines.

How do FX fees change the total?

Card and transfer costs often sit on top of a mid-market style reference (ACCC (opens official site)). Use a fee buffer and read paying overseas clinics.

Where do procedure and country guides live?
