Short answer: This page hosts a comparison tool that helps you line up Australian and overseas price ranges from dated, sourced data - not invent a “deal”. Where our sourced CSV (mt-price-ranges.csv) or published hospital tariffs has no dated row, figures show Price on request, get quotes from clinics / pending sourced data. Medicare doesn’t cover you overseas (Smartraveller (opens official site)).

Risks and caveats (read first)

  • Estimates only. Any difference between Australian and overseas ranges is a planning figure, not a guaranteed saving and not a quote you can book against.
  • Not a clinic quote. Packages change with inclusions, surgeon fees, implants or devices, scans, nights in hospital and currency. Ask for an itemised written quote.
  • Extras often dominate. Flights, recovery nights, insurance, time off work, companion costs, follow-up at home and revision can outweigh a lower procedure line. See the trip budget planner and the trip cost calculator.
  • Foreign exchange moves. Card fees and FX margins change the all-in AUD cost (ACCC (opens official site); Moneysmart (opens official site)). Use the currency converter with a fee buffer in mind.
  • Medical suitability comes first. A lower overseas range does not mean you are a suitable candidate. Talk to a registered health practitioner in Australia before deciding. Risks of travelling for treatment are summarised by Smartraveller (opens official site).
  • Cosmetic selections will not surface loan CTAs. If you choose a cosmetic procedure category, this tool will not push borrowing, payment-plan or loan calls to action. Ahpra advertising rules restrict how financial arrangements are promoted alongside cosmetic procedures; we keep planning tools separate from credit marketing.
  • We do not use percentage “save” marketing (for example headline claims like “save 70%”). Differences are shown as ranges with as-of dates once sourced data is live.

What the tool does

The interactive tool on this page uses these inputs:

Input Purpose
Procedure category Selects which sourced AU and overseas ranges to load (pending CSV)
Destination (optional) Narrows overseas range where destination-specific rows exist
Your Australian quote (optional) Lets you replace the AU range mid-point with your own itemised figure
Inclusions checklist Flags whether hospital nights, implants/devices, scans and aftercare are in the overseas package

The tool shows these outputs:

Output Notes
Australian price range (AUD) From dated sourced rows only; otherwise Price on request, get quotes from clinics
Overseas price range (AUD) Converted using a stated as-of reference; otherwise Price on request, get quotes from clinics
Estimated range difference AU minus overseas ranges, labelled as an estimate, never a guaranteed saving
As-of date and source label Which CSV snapshot or tariff set was used
Extras reminder Link-out to trip budget / trip cost tools so procedure-only comparisons are not mistaken for full trip cost
Suitability reminder Prompt to confirm clinical suitability with an Australian registered practitioner

Cosmetic procedure categories: comparison ranges only - no loan, BNPL or “how to pay” CTAs in the results panel.

Methodology and data sources

Live numeric ranges must come from dated, sourced inputs:

  1. Internal dataset mt-price-ranges.csv (procedure, country, currency, low/high, inclusions notes, source URL, as-of date), and/or
  2. Published hospital or clinic tariffs we can cite with an access date.

We never invent numbers. Until a row is verified and dated:

  • On-page figures appear as Price on request, get quotes from clinics
  • Tool copy will say pending sourced data
  • Destination cost pages linked below stay in the same pending state until verification

As-of dates will be shown next to every live range. Stale rows will be refreshed or withdrawn rather than left as undated marketing figures. Currency conversion for overseas tariffs will use a stated reference rate plus a user-visible card/FX buffer caveat (see paying overseas clinics and the currency converter).

Related reading while numbers are pending: costs hub, dental implant costs, hip replacement costs, knee replacement costs, gastric sleeve costs.

Calculator

Widget live. Compare your AU total with overseas treatment plus travel extras you enter. Difference labelled estimate only — not a quote and not advice. Outputs are estimates only — we do not invent savings figures, clinic prices or “you will save $X” advice.

The interactive savings calculator is available on this page when rendered on the published site. The methodology below still applies. Numbers are estimates only, not quotes, and show Price on request, get quotes from clinics / pending sourced data where our CSV has no sourced row. It loads only dated ranges from sourced CSV / published tariffs.

Until then, build a full trip picture with the trip budget planner and compare procedure pages under costs.

Frequently asked questions

Is this calculator a quote I can book against?

No. Outputs will be planning estimates from dated ranges. Only a written, itemised clinic or hospital quote is a price for booking.

Why are the numbers showing as Price on request, get quotes from clinics?

We only publish figures we can tie to a dated sourced CSV row or published tariff. Invented or undated marketing prices are not used.

Will the tool tell me I will “save 70%”?

No. We do not use headline percentage-saving claims. Any difference will be shown as ranges with an as-of date and clear estimate labelling.

If I select a cosmetic procedure, will I see loan offers?

No. Cosmetic selections must not surface loan, BNPL or payment-plan CTAs on this tool.

Does a lower overseas range mean I should travel?

No. Clinical suitability, surgeon registration, hospital standards, recovery time and insurance matter more than a range difference. Start with your Australian GP or dentist, and read Smartraveller on medical tourism (opens official site).

How do extras change the comparison?

Flights, hotel nights, insurance, FX fees and Australian follow-up often close or reverse an apparent procedure-only difference. Use the trip budget planner.

Does Medicare cover overseas treatment in the comparison?

No. Medicare doesn’t cover you overseas (Smartraveller (opens official site)). See Medicare overseas treatment.

Is the interactive tool live?

Yes. The interactive tool is available on this page when rendered on the published site. The risks, methodology and data rules on this page still apply, and figures remain estimates (or Price on request, get quotes from clinics where no sourced row exists).
